Llanpumsaint and District Choir

Côr Llanpumsaint a’r Cylch is a mixed voice choir. The Choir was officially formed in October 1979 with around 25 members from the Llanpumsaint area. Since then the Choir has grown and now has around 60 members who come from a wide area. For some years we have been rehearsing every Thursday evening in Cynnwyl Elfed Community Hall.

The Choir’s main purpose is to enjoy singing and to extend our musical knowledge, and in doing this creating a very happy and friendly association. Our conductor since the beginning is Gwyn Nicholas and our accompanist is Lynne James. We also have two deputy accompanists namely Delyth Rees and Geraint Rees.

During its early years the Choir focussed on local concerts and competing in Eisteddfodau, winning first prize in Newport National Eisteddfod in 1988. More recently the Choir has changed direction and concentrated on performing major musical works including Messiah, Samson, Judas Maccabeus (G. F. Handel), The Creation, Nelson Mass (Haydn), Stabat Mater (Rossini) and the oratorio Elijah (Mendelssohn) which was performed by us in Tabernacl Chapel, Carmarthen on 30th November 2013.
